50 years along and this building finally gets a proper restoration cleaning & sealing. The limestone was covered in biological material and stains that had to be treated first with a biocide. Our Easy Spray System allows for the biocide to be applied in volume and cover a large area quickly. Citrashield was used as the biocide.
Once the biocide has had time to do its job, in this case several weeks, we then rinse the building with warm water and low pressure. This allows for the stains and biologicals to be removed from the surface. In heavily staned areas limestone cleaner is applied to those areas to remove the stains.
The final step is apply a permeable sealer. We use a 97PERM sealer by Cathedral Stone (R97). this will keep the buillding looking great for many years.
Final rinse before sealing the limestone.
On large projects it is necessary to cover the building as quickly as possible. Here we re applying Citrashield to this masonry that is horribly covered in biological material. We allow this set in place for a couple of weeks to make sure it has penetrated to the root. Then, we rinse and seal the building.
Here we are removing hard stains from concrete with warm water and medium pressure. A restoration cleaner has been applied to heavier stained areas before this removal process. It will be sealed as the final step in the restoration & preservation.
This video covers the exterior restoration of the Reserve Officers Association located at 1 Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC. This is a full restoration of the exterior limestone, metal framing, handrails, granite/bluestone roof anchor installation and rust removal.
In December 2020, CSCI had been tasked by the Architect of the Capitol to provide scaffold training, a scaffold plan & scaffolding for the US Capitol dome maintenance in time for the Presidential inauguration. Video shows the scaffolding being lifted to the US Capitol roof top for this project.
Maquette of the Alexander Calder sculpture "Mountains & Clouds". CSCI was prominently illustrated for the restoration work we performed on this. Enjoy!
